Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder affects our individual well being, our relationships with friends, partners, and families as well as our work and school life. At IAP, we work collaboratively with psychiatrists, medical doctors, tutors, school counselors, and others to help create a supportive team to treat ADD/ADHD and help our client become successful with managing all aspects of life. ADD/ADHD can make you feel out of control - we use proven methods to get you back in control.

Assessment

We assess and diagnose ADD/ADHD for children and adults in a few sessions and provide tailored treatment recommendations and referrals. We can also provide more extensive psychological assessments to understand you or your family members' strengths and weaknesses.

Individual Treatment

When working with children and adults with ADD/ADHD, we facilitate the learning of skills which decrease distraction, regulate emotional reactions and impulsivity, and increase organization.  We also address the secondary issues to ADD/ADHD such as low self esteem, drug and/or alcohol abuse, shame, depression, anxiety, and/or trauma. We work closely with psychiatrists and physicians who prescribe medication in conjunction with these treatments.

Couples/Family Therapy

Having a child with ADD/ADHD or being in a relationship with someone with ADD/ADHD can present many challenges. Because ADD/ADHD often causes impulsivity, distraction, and disorganization, the illness can have a tangible impact on those around it. At times it can cause us to feel helpless in understanding or helping our loved ones

Some may feel helpless to understand or to help. At the Bay Area Center for ADHD, we collaborate with family members or caretakers to develop an approach that addresses problem behaviors and increases closeness in the relationship. We also provide couples therapy to help partners understand the effect of ADD/ADHD on their relationship and how to cope with the illness's symptoms.

Work/School Functioning

Most people with ADD/ADHD discover the negative impact the illness has on their life at work or school.  At The Bay Area Center for ADD/ADHD, we focus on teaching skills that are effective in the work environment. We work with teachers, tutors, and school staff to get necessary accommodations to support success. Together, we will develop a strategy for encouraging success and combating symptoms.
