The Center for AD/HD: Collaborative Treatment with Techniques Proven for Success for Children, Teens, and Adults
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (previously known as ADD)
affects not just our individual well being, but relationships with
friends, partners, and families as well as work and school. At the Bay
Area Center for AD/HD we work collaboratively with psychiatrists,
medical doctors, tutors, school counselors, and other to help create a
supportive team to treat ADHD and help our client become successful with
managing all aspects of life. ADHD can make you feel out of control -
we use proven methods to get you back in control.
Some may feel helpless to understand or to help. At the Institute, we collaborate with family members or caretakers to develop an approach that addresses problem behaviors and increases closeness in the relationship. We also provide couples therapy to help partners understand the effect of ADHD on their relationship and how to cope with the illness's symptoms.
Assessment
We assess and diagnose ADHD in a few sessions and provide treatment recommendations and referrals. We can also provide more extensive psychological assessments to understand your strengths and weaknesses.Individual Treatment
When working with children and adults with ADHD, we facilitate the learning of skills which decrease distraction, regulate emotional reactions and impulsivity, and increase organization. We also address the secondary issues to ADHD such as low self esteem, drug and/or alcohol abuse, shame, depression, anxiety, and/or trauma. We work closely with psychiatrists and physicians prescribing medication. Couples/Family TherapyHaving a child with ADHD or being in a relationship with someone with ADHD can present many challenges for the loved ones. Because ADHD often causes impulsivity, distraction, and disorganization, the illness can have a tangible impact on those around it.Some may feel helpless to understand or to help. At the Institute, we collaborate with family members or caretakers to develop an approach that addresses problem behaviors and increases closeness in the relationship. We also provide couples therapy to help partners understand the effect of ADHD on their relationship and how to cope with the illness's symptoms.
Work/School Functioning
At work and at school, most people with ADHD discover the impact of the illness's effects. We focus on teaching skills that are effective in the work environment. We work with teachers, tutors, and school staff to get necessary accommodations to support success. Together, we will develop a strategy for encouraging success and combating symptoms.
