Teen Therapy

Teenagers with ADD/ADHD face real challenges.  Not only do they deal with issues regarding navigating adolescence, but they deal with impulsivity, struggles with school, and sometimes problems in relationships with parents.  Teens with ADD/ADHD are at risk for drug and alcohol abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship problems with friend or parents, and/or delinquency.  With the proper understanding of ADD/ADHD that the Bay Area ADD/ADHD Clinic provides, teens and parents can begin to learn how to deal with the symptoms to help and be successful.

At the Bay Area Center for ADD/ADHD, the first step in working with teens is providing a good assessment.  Unfortunately, ADHD/ADD can be overdiagnosed by untrained professionals or can be missed by professionals who do not understand ADHD/ADD and its impact.

At the Bay Area ADHD/ADD Clinic, we take the time to provide a thorough assessment before making a diagnosis.  We can even provide a more extensive assessment to understand the teens' strengths and weaknesses.  We will then develop a treatment plan that may include medication, therapy, parent consultation, family therapy, group therapy, and/or educational therapy.  Your treatment plan will be developed around your family and its values.  We understand that not everyone feels comfortable giving their teenager medication, so we will work with you and generally lean towards under medicating teens rather than overmedicating them.  We can help your family become happier, help protect your child's sense of self esteem, and help your family succeed.
