CBT Group for Adult ADHD:
Evidence Based Approaches for Targeting Executive Function
with
Laura Petracek, Ph.D., LCSW
We are excited to announce our upcoming CBT Adult ADHD Group at the Bay Area Center for ADHD. This specialized program is designed to provide effective skills for managing ADHD symptoms through Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), guided by the book "Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD: Targeting Executive Dysfunction", which is written by Mary V. Solanto. This group provides evidence-based strategies for helping adults with ADHD build essential skills for time management, organization, planning, and coping. Each of the 12 group sessions introduces a skill/s in step-by-step detail. The group involves in-session exercises, take-home notes, and homework assignments.
Dr. Petracek has a distinguished career spanning over thirty years as a clinical psychologist, author, and speaker specializing in several areas of psychology. She has held positions as associate professor, assistant professor, and adjunct professor at prominent Bay Area Graduate Institutions, including Alliant University, Dominican University, and National University. Her areas of expertise include working with adults and children diagnosed with ADHD combined type, impulsive/hyperactive type, inattentive type, and distractable type. Dr. Petracek's clinical focus also involves the application of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and other evidence-based therapies for addressing alcohol and substance use disorders, mood disorders, and issues related to anger dysregulation. |
This group meets weekly, and the curriculum is divided into three 4-week modules. Adults (18+) are strongly encouraged to complete the 12-week curriculum at least once, which is consistent with clinical research recommendations for optimal results. The class has a maximum of 8 participants. The class costs $150/week, paid in 4-week installments ($600) at the beginning of a module. The three modules are briefly summarized below:
1. Time Management
2. Getting Organized
3. Project Planning
Our CBT Skills classes fill up very quickly. If you'd like to enroll in an upcoming module, please submit an online inquiry by September 13th in order to accommodate our enrollment process (i.e., initial paperwork completion, intake appointment, enrollment confirmation). Please plan accordingly to provide enough time for all steps.
