Therapy for ADD/ADHD in Children and FamiliesADD/ADHD is a developmental condition that affects both children and adults. Children with ADD/ADHD often struggle with paying attention, and may face disciplinary issues due to impulsivity or hyperactivity at school. They may also experience social challenges and difficulties at home. If left untreated, ADD/ADHD can negatively impact a child's self-esteem, leading to issues such as depression, anxiety, and strained relationships with parents. Approximately 40% of children with ADD/ADHD are also classified as oppositional, which can put them at greater risk for acting out during adolescence, as well as engaging in substance abuse and other risky behaviors. Fortunately, these challenges can be significantly improved through effective treatment for ADD/ADHD.

The first step in working with children is providing a comprehensive assessment. Unfortunately, ADHD/ADD is often either overdiagnosed by untrained professionals or overlooked entirely by those unfamiliar with its impact. At the Bay Area Center for ADHD/ADD, we ensure a thorough evaluation before making a diagnosis. Our in-depth assessment helps us understand your child’s strengths and challenges.
Based on this evaluation, we develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication, therapy, parent consultation, family therapy, group therapy, and/or educational therapy. Your plan will be tailored to your family’s values and needs. We understand that some families may have concerns about medicating their children, and we prioritize a careful approach, generally opting to under-medicate rather than over-medicate. Additionally, we offer Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an effective treatment for addressing behavioral issues such as oppositional defiance, which occurs in 40% of children with ADHD/ADD. Our goal is to improve family dynamics, protect your child’s self-esteem, and foster success within your family. |
