If you have Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), you may experience challenges with standardized testing. Many individuals with ADHD/ADD struggle with sustained attention, working memory, and time management, which can affect test performance.
Because ADHD/ADD is recognized as a disability, you may be eligible for testing accommodations, such as extended time, reduced-distraction environments, and additional breaks. Most standardized tests require a comprehensive evaluation to document cognitive and academic abilities, demonstrating the need for accommodations. At the Bay Area Center for ADHD, we provide thorough assessments and documentation to support your request for accommodations |
Standardized Tests That Require Documentation for Accommodations:
|
DOCUMENTATION ASSESSMENT
For those who have a prior diagnosis of ADHD/ADD and need an evaluation for accommodations, or for those whose previous evaluations are outdated, we can provide a documentation assessment or documentation update, with the data that is needed to support accommodations. These documentation assessments use the minimum required testing to provide necessary data, helping adolescents and adults with ADHD/ADD obtain accommodations without excessive costs.
COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENTS
If the person has not been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD or a learning disability in the past, we provide a comprehensive assessment to determine if accommodations are warranted. One thing to consider is that if you have never had accommodations in the past, even if the testing data supports the need for accommodations, some testing organizations may not grant them if the person has performed at their current level without accommodations. Also, there must be a significant difference between one's cognitive abilities and their achievement in order to support a need for accommodations, so if the person does not have this clinically significant difference, then accommodations may not be granted. This is not to dissuade anyone from seeking an assessment for accommodations, but just helping to clarify that there is the risk that the testing will not guarantee accommodations.
To schedule a free phone consultation to discuss getting an assessment, you can call us at (415) 547-0241 or email us at [email protected]. Currently, our clinicians can schedule an assessment within a month of the initial phone conversation and provide the report within a week of completing the testing*. We encourage clients to research the test they are taking and how long they should have the report complete and submitted before taking the test or scheduling the test as some testing organizations may require weeks or months for approval.
*we cannot guarantee this timeline, although it is the current timeline for most cases
